I want to see "An Education," but it played in my own home town for a week, two showings in the middle of the day. And then it was gone. The closest theater showing it now is a hundred miles away--in my old college town. What sort of life is this?
Here is the official website and the movie's trailer (1) (2).
"Of course you do," I can already hear some of you saying. Don't worry, it doesn't turn out happy for him. I haven't seen it, of course. I've only heard. But you might want to read this article about the book's author, Lynn Barber.
If you've seen it, let me know how it is. I have a feeling I won't get to see it until it wins an Oscar. Maybe then it will show in this Philistine town.
For now, I will have to glean something of it from the tag ends of clips floating around the internet. Qu'elle damage.
It was recommended to me by a friend in Australia but it's not here yet either. I haven't seen Crazy Heart either. I guess I'll be waiting for the DVD on both of these.
ReplyDeleteI had a good chuckle -- a broad after my own heart i-- my friend Susan and I used to do this thing -- a guy would walk into a party or a bar and there would be a strike of familiar ---we turn to each other and say "did I sleep with him or did you."

R, Your town is as bad as mine. How do we sustain ourselves?
ReplyDeleteL, That's why I'm here!
Well, I have to apologize to my town, Crazy Heart arrived at our local theater on Friday. I'm hoping to see it this weekend. I sustain myself with netflix and reading your blog! :)
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested in reading the memoir, which one can absolutely read in one quick go, it's available at any B&N or your local indie book store! It's fantastic! I promise. I saw both the movie and read Lynn's memoir and can safely say, as someone who loves film and books, that the memoir is more complete and brilliantly written.
