Summertime and the Living Is Easy

Yesterday was kind of fun even though it was a day at the factory.  I have a new project there that kept me out of the office much of the day, and much of that time was outside.  This will continue the rest of the week and next week my supervisor will be gone.  Memorial Day will give me a four day weekend and a three day workweek, and then I plan to go away somewhere. . . anywhere.  On top of that, I have some new cinema camera toys coming that are going to get me back into the business of making movies, and much of the time in my office was spent reading up on that.  Now that digital cinema is combining its techie talk with old film terminology. . . there is a lot for me to catch up on.  I'll have to ask Q some questions since he has a degree in filmmaking.  It will be fun to see if he remembers anything.  T-stops, for instance.  They are the cine lens equivalent of f-stops, but they are said to be more accurate because they take something else (like lens size, I think) into consideration.  I've also discovered why a cine lens is about five times the expense of a photo lens, and it is not the glass.  Come on, Q.  Pull out the old books and help me out here.

So as it was, yesterday could have stood on its own.  However, I got an email from the first model I ever shot in my studio telling me she was in town and available for a coffee.  I, of course, was not, but I texted her a response which started a conversation.  What fun to be texting with a pretty girl on a pretty day.  She wanted to know about my old blog, and I told her I'd started a new one for reasons I would disclose next time we met.  Then at her request (I would never cold call a girl, I promise), I called her.  She was driving and texting via Siri and you know how that works out.  So sitting on an outside bench, I had a lovely chat.  And best of all, she's coming back to town next week, so we'll have that coffee after all.  And, I think, we will be back in the studio.  I'm sure she is a wreck now, but I'll photograph anyone.  Just a joke.  I gave her the link for this site later on in the evening.  When I went to bed, she texted me that she had missed reading my stuff.  Nothing like a compliment by a pretty girl before bed while listening to this.

Later on, I sent Q the link.  It wasn't the same thing at all.  He complained, of course, then the line went dead.  Two guys listening to the same music and writing back and forth isn't on equal footing in either of our houses.

I have to admit that Apple paid me a fee to promote their link.  I've become a corporate whore.  But hell. . . none of you are helping me pay the bills.

Jesus, I feel I've revealed too much in the last two paragraphs.  The part about Apple isn't literally true.  The other part, though, is making me sick.

Some days are better than others, so I'll take the happy feelings when they come.  The weather has been swell and there has been music.  The ice caps are melting and the U.S. is becoming a second rate everything.  Greed rules worldwide.  I may quit reading the news, for my reading it makes no difference at all.  There are better things to read almost everywhere.  It is summer, and the living is easy.  So they say.  Said.  Maybe it used to be, but so far, it has been true around here.  I'll love it while I can.
