I ate last night at the Himalayan restaurant. The food was good. The atmosphere was lousy. I had the traditional sherpa stew. I will learn to make it. It could easily be my nightly meal. After dinner alone in the bright lights at a table in the middle of the room, I walked around town--which means up the main drag. Saturday night. It was an ugly crowd. There didn't seem to be anything that interested me. The bars were typical or worse. Gangs of rowdy high school kids ran the streets. They, too, were ugly. There isn't much pretty but the land here as far as I can tell, and humans are doing everything in their powers to make the country look as much like them as possible.
So early I came back to my room. Around eleven, I lay in bed and turned on the television. I watched a show on Discovery about mermaids. Apparently they are real. There is a Ph.D. zoologist who believes so. He has made a documentary about it. The governments of several countries have secret videos that they are hiding from the public. Some of the videos have been leaked by brave people willing to face their government's wrath. You can see some of them here (link). They are hideous and apparently dangerous creatures. It is good to know.
I move slowly today because I am uncertain what I will do. I will probably do the easiest thing. Mesa Verde and perhaps my same hotel. That is what uncertainty will do for you.
