As I sat in my funk, though, drinking my second cup of coffee and thinking I didn't have time to write today, I got an email from the girl pictured above. She was one of the first models I worked with and one of my all time favorites. She was a total delight as a person. She had just gotten her B.A. and had decided to go into the army. I was devastated. She came to shoot with me simply all the time. Everything she did, every move she made, was picture perfect. I begged her not to go. That was over three years ago. We have not kept in touch, though after she left, I shot with one of her friends who was the second best model I'd ever worked with, and she kept me informed about army life. Then the girl above got married to another soldier. I remember that now. Oh how things go. One of the first pictures I ever had framed was one of her. It was one of four images I had at a gallery in a group show. I have another of her images hanging in my office. They are both large--32"x26". The email was simple. "Hi. I'm back in town and want to see you." Followed by another a few minutes later--"You are a true visionary." It brought me back from the dead. This happens often enough, women I've worked with keep in touch or get back in touch out of the blue. Just when I think I don't want to do this any more. . . .
