Living in the Dial Tone

I am anxious to get this day done successfully.  Life is a mess.  As Hemingway said, "All things truly wicked start from an innocence."  Not all of them, I think, but more than enough.  Current theory has it that all that was is now bad.  The present exists only to refute the past.  Soon, everything will be neutral.  Life will be a dial tone of happiness.  Trouble is, nobody of a certain age have ever heard a dial tone.

"You are a lost generation," Gertrude Stein might have said.  With iPhones, nobody is lost any more.  That is what I was told yesterday, but I thought differently.  Perpetually lost.  That is a value-laden statement and open to quite some debate.

"What do you mean by lost?"

It doesn't matter.  I have always loved to argue but I am tired of it now.  The referees have all been bought off.  The judges have been, too.  The game is rigged.  Outcomes are predetermined.

Early days every day at the factory now.  It is all I know.  That and the gym and the late dinners and the hour of television.  I call it existence. Living in the dial tone.
